The winter is about to end and spring is waiting at its doorsteps. Nature, slowly, awakens from the slumber in which it was immersed in the cold season and in the woods, in the warmest days, the birds start to sing their songs. One of the most mysterious and intriguing sounds is the woodpecker's drumming. A dry and rhythmic sound, similar to the sound a repetitively beaten drum makes which one hears from far away, echoing from trunk to trunk between the trees of the forest. It's a warning signal: the woodpecker makes it by frenetically hitting a branch with its robust beak, to demarcate its territory, to warn its competitors to stay away. The message is of crucial importance, therefore the bird carefully picks out the dry branch which it will use, it needs one with all the right characteristics. This is what usually happens, but, as we all know, nature is full of surprises. (...)
